A Herefordshire Café in Ross-on-Wye Announces Closure in September Amid Rising Expenses and the Cost of Living Crisis

Gelatis, an American Diner nestled in the heart of Ross-on-Wye, has regretfully confirmed its impending closure in September, a decision attributed to mounting bills and the challenges posed by the cost of living crisis.

Taking to social media earlier this month, the café shared the unfortunate news via a Facebook post:

“With heavy hearts, we must announce the closure of Gelatis, scheduled for Tuesday, September 6th.

“While building this small business has been a labor of love and a whole lot of fun, the recent surge in energy costs, with our bills tripling thanks to BES Utilities Ltd (we strongly advise avoiding this company!), has made it unfeasible to continue.

“They say one should save the best for last, and the dedicated team of young individuals who joined us this summer have been nothing short of exceptional!

“We’re all deeply saddened to bid farewell, but I’m confident they’ll each embark on remarkable career paths. It’s been an absolute blast working together and serving our wonderful patrons.

“The shop won’t remain vacant for long; a delightful new venture is on the horizon, though I’ll hold off on sharing further details until I secure approval from the incoming tenant.

“In the meantime, we’re thrilled to continue serving both our loyal regulars and newcomers throughout the remaining summer season (and it appears there might just be a bit more of it left!).

“Wishing everyone joyful holidays and expressing our heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support.”
